Let’s talk about wax.
We are very picky about our wax.
Many of the candles out there are made of paraffin wax. This is likely because it’s the most affordable option. However, this petroleum based wax can actually emit black soot and toxic fumes into the air! Yuck! Not only that, but it is a highly processed and non-renewable resource.
Soy wax may not be quite as cost effective as paraffin, but it burns both cooler and cleaner. This means that not only will your pure soy wax candles last longer, but they wont be sending toxicity into the air of your home while you burn them. It’s a soft natural vegetable wax made from soybean oil, and it’s completely biodegradable. Because of its smooth texture soy wax can not stand on it’s own and requires the support of a jar or tin. This means that any soy wax candles you see out there standing proudly all vessel-free are blended with other waxes, typically paraffin.
The other common wax choice is beeswax, and honestly, we love them! However, beeswax is typically even more costly and has a slight natural honey scent all on its own. It’s a much denser wax and holds up all by itself without needing a vessel to support it. Who knows, maybe we’ll see some Ignite Beeswax candles in the future!
For now, due to the moderate cost point and excellent ability to hold and disperse our custom essential oil blends, all Ignite Candle Co. candles are made from only 100% US grown soy, and we think they’re pretty great!
